Woolen Shorts, Army Coat

DSC01598edited

When living in London I got exposed to the notion of wearing shorts in the wintertime within a multi-layered outfit scenario. Once upon a nostalgic afternoon in New York City, I decided to bring my woolen winter shorts down from the shelves and back to existence. It was happening. They make their way, accompanied with a color-blocked sweater worn over a silky printed grey blouse. The ensemble combo encompassed a rich, playful wintery color pallet with elements of color blocking and prints. The silk blouse projected a structure sharp collar, which I really appreciated. I completed the look with a dab of purple lipstick and my trademark purple scarf.

On the very same day I came across a cute little vintage store on 9th street by the name of “Glasgow Vintage Co” where I encountered a beautifully structured Scottish Male military Jacket in a size small. Legendary. The olive structured affiliate enhanced the look and created the precise finishing touch – an attire resembling a vintage school boy uniform.

Like 95 in my Denim

DSC01031edited

To welcome the New Year I have made new outfit building resolutions to take on in 2015. We all have those pieces sitting in our closets for months that we hesitate to include in our impulse throw-on looks. One of my resolutions is to consider an item from my pre existing closet that I have not worn in a while, to my daily outfit-building menu.

Here I am throwing on my vintage oversized denim jacket to an all black ensemble. I purchased this denim jacket from a vintage store in Georgia Atlanta and have not experimented with it before now. Here I am rocking it over a black turtleneck knit top from Ted baker and black leggings- an easy platform.

I embellish with my favorite black patent boots that I bought from the Burberry outlet, a good find Indeed! I decided to add in some accents of blue by sporting a velvet navy turban designed by one of my good friends and blogger Isamarij, along with winter trademark navy leather long gloves.

Playtime

www.stilettosandsubstance.com

For this post, I was inspired by an effortless easy breezy playtime attire enabling me to accomplish freestyle happy dancing moves in the streets of Soho. I am rocking a loosely fitted button-up white shirt accompanied by silky black harem pants. The simplicity of this outfit brings us back to the basics of sporting an effortless, chic daytime look.

My new Asos cut-out party booties make the dancing commence with ease due to their perfect height of 2.5 inches. Your new moves may surprise you. You know. You may have been a sea lion in a previous lifetime.

To add some hues of color to the look, I am layering with an olive green leather jacket and my trademark purple fur muffler, and a heavy duty screw cuff bracelet from Miansai.

Get Carried Away

With New York Fashion Week only a few days away, I took it upon myself to get inspired and challenge my wardrobe. I attempted to pull my own version of the “Carrie Bradshaw” by putting together pieces that I would not naturally gravitate towards pairing together, but somehow just come together in an unconventional manner.

I am wearing a mustard heavy weight metallic Gilet with puffy sleeves. I pair it in an alternative manner with a cream pleated high waist A-line skirt and suede peep-toe booties creating an effortless easy day or night-out-in-town look.

The luminous metallic fabric of the Gilet definitely makes it the statement piece and ideal to pair with my ethnic ‘Lapiz Lazuli’, semi-precious, blue stone necklace from Afghanistan. The vibrant colors all compliment each other dreamily in addition to the pop of scarlet red lipstick – Mac’s renowned “Ruby Woo”. I finish off the look with a straw weaved messenger bag to play off the semi organic feel of the look.

Shift Dress Ready

Stilettosandsubstance.com

This week features a day-to-night-look. A simple outfit of the day that can be carried forth to summer night-time endeavors.

I am wearing a purple v-neck kimono-sleeved shift dress from Asos. This piece is an easy comfortable throw on and constitutes a silhouette that is flattering to many different female forms. I accessorize with a chunky necklace that put together a few years back. I bought the fluffy wool pendant from a jewelry booth during London Fashion Weekend and found beads to pair it with from the Boston bead factory.

Simplicity is the key with this look as the dress color is the main visual stimulant. The remaining accessorizing process is remained at a minimal with white a white leather Messenger from Ted Baker and white wedges from Kurt Geiger.

Be Easy Baby

www.stilettosandsubstance.comSummer daytime attire creates a platform of endless combinations of separates to play with and accessories to distinguish by. The humid Manhattan mist alerts a necessity for easy breezy clothing combinations to avoid contributing to the feeling of attire-caused claustrophobia.

Here I am rocking a basic black tank with a drawstring asymmetrical taupe skirt from All Saints. The accessorizing is really with makes this outfit distinctive. I am wearing the Mini Smile mirror necklace by Kirsteen Stewart which instantly makes me happy, and a maw hauk electric blue clutch by Ted Baker to add a pop of color to the neutral tones. I finish off the look with peep-toe suede must-have booties by Steve Madden.

Disney Retro

With spring-cleaning, a lot of hidden treasures reveal themselves. When I come visit my mother in Abu Dhabi, I get the pleasure of rummaging through her closet and incorporating some of her pieces with my own to create interesting outfit combinations. Here I am rocking a Donald Duck and Daisy Duck Oversized shirt that she purchased from boutique in Switzerland many years back. It comes back to life as I pair it with my camel harem pants from Vince for an effortless breezy spring/summer attire.

The humidity makes it difficult to have non frizzy hair, instead surrendering to the fizziness and maintaining the curls using Miss Jessie’s Pillow soft curls styling lotion may yield affirmative results. Here I rock my frizz in a low ponytail and a loosely parted fringe.

I finished off my outfit by accessorizing lightly with black striped shades by Fendi and pointed black flats by Charles and Keith.
