Cipriani Halloween Party – London Phone Box

www.stilettosandsubstance.com

I got my inspiration to dress up as a ‘London Telephone Box’ thanks to an early inspiration initiated by a big poster of a London double decker bus that is plastered above my bed. The red color palette idea was decided on but then I didn’t want to be a red bus for Halloween. So I went on to think of other things that are red and decided to become London telephone box. Consulting your creative mind light heartedly and colorfully can somehow put together some exciting creative solutions 😉

How I did it was by looking for a shiny red base (dress), which I religiously searched for on the web and of coarse in the end found it at non other than Asos.com. No surprise there, Asos will happen to have a red patent dress just because. Next I was going to create little phone box windows which I did using aluminum tape and white border tape. The telephone sign (with the correct font) and the Queen’s crown were mandatory.

The headpiece and wire necklace accessorizing was an easy last minute combination of Amazon Prime orders, hot glue, and lots of hair pins and insulators. Schiaparelli created the shoe hat and I today was going to have a red phone projecting whimsically and happily off my head.

We headed to the Halloween Party at Cipriani on 42nd street where Italian Dj Marco Carola was going to take our eardrums on an electrifying musical journey, and he did quite that!

Till next time Halloween

Xoxo

Fierce and Armed

stilettosandsubstance.com

In an effort to live to your higher self you must create a vision of your “super you”. Challenge your inner “post no bills” by painting a new picture of yourself, create it and evolve into it. Put on that dress that is going to transform your “attitude” towards the day, give you ’the oomph of mental power and energy. Play the role of that inner alter ego. If not, create one. Take it to new heights. Try that something that scares you. Enjoy the process. Smile. Walk down the street with your head up and look around and admire all the creations of mankind. It’s a beautiful day and if not, well nature is making its own seasonal adjustments. Be slightly prepared. Carry a leather jacket. Olive green if you may. Rich in color. Surprise yourself. Wear a third eye across your neck and see how people respond to it. It’s a perfect conversation starter. Talk to strangers. Get right to it. Today you’re on a role. Take something from it. Continue on your adventure. No holding back. Fierce and armed, literally.

Get Carried Away

stilettosandsubstance.com

With New York Fashion Week only a few days away, I took it upon myself to get inspired and challenge my wardrobe. I attempted to pull my own version of the “Carrie Bradshaw” by putting together pieces that I would not naturally gravitate towards pairing together, but somehow just come together in an unconventional manner.

I am wearing a mustard heavy weight metallic Gilet with puffy sleeves. I pair it in an alternative manner with a cream pleated high waist A-line skirt and suede peep-toe booties creating an effortless easy day or night-out-in-town look.

The luminous metallic fabric of the Gilet definitely makes it the statement piece and ideal to pair with my ethnic ‘Lapiz Lazuli’, semi-precious, blue stone necklace from Afghanistan. The vibrant colors all compliment each other dreamily in addition to the pop of scarlet red lipstick – Mac’s renowned “Ruby Woo”. I finish off the look with a straw weaved messenger bag to play off the semi organic feel of the look.

A New Perspective

stilettosandsubstance.comThis week’s style post highlights the idea of mixing and matching your previously owned fashion pieces. Dedicating a few extra minutes to our daily outfit choosing routine can go a long way resulting in fun new outfit combos. We all have that specific top and pants that we religiously pair together that we now can approach with a fresh new styling perspective.

Here I am rocking a grey peter pan collared button up top that I purchased from Asos a while back. I am pairing it alternatively with silky harem black and beige striped pants from American Apparel. This new outfit combo created a new day-to-night look mostly with the addition of the harem pants to a top that I usually wear with my black high waisted skinny pants as corporate attire.

With a neutral toned outfit there’s nothing better than to compliment it by adding a pop of colorful accessorizing. I accessorize the neutral grays and yellows with a scarlet red statement shoe by Marc by Marc. The statement show consists of golden buttons and chunky gold and red striped heel, which is my favorite element of the shoe.

I accessorize adventurously by layering many necklaces of different textures, lengths and shades for no reason whatsoever. Lastly I throw on my trademark Marc by Marc “clearly” bag, which has a vinyl panel on the front exposing the inner leather compartments of the bag. There’s an element of excitement that comes with rocking vinyl clear bags and exposing the inner workings of your life– an amusement i attained at a very early age ever since my first clear vinyl backpack with the legendary purple zippers… in Kindergarten.

Shift Dress Ready

Stilettosandsubstance.com

This week features a day-to-night-look. A simple outfit of the day that can be carried forth to summer night-time endeavors.

I am wearing a purple v-neck kimono-sleeved shift dress from Asos. This piece is an easy comfortable throw on and constitutes a silhouette that is flattering to many different female forms. I accessorize with a chunky necklace that put together a few years back. I bought the fluffy wool pendant from a jewelry booth during London Fashion Weekend and found beads to pair it with from the Boston bead factory.

Simplicity is the key with this look as the dress color is the main visual stimulant. The remaining accessorizing process is remained at a minimal with white a white leather Messenger from Ted Baker and white wedges from Kurt Geiger.

Tie Dye Sunsets and Flatforms

stilettosandsubstance.com

This week’s outfit post emits an element of childhood nostalgia as I dress for an American style family-embraced poolside barbeque away from the city. With vast amount of grass field to play in, childhood acrobatic jumping aspirations come to mind.

I am wearing a sunset tie dye top with magenta and blue hues from Ted Baker. The Ted baker spring/summer sale was ideal to stock up on fun tops and blouses that always come in handy for everyday work/fun attire. The prints say it all and make it easy to pair with casual solids. I pair it with white jeans– an item of clothing I have not owned for many years. Finding the right pair of white jeans may be a difficult process especially for us curvy types. The stretch factor and thickness of white jeans is critical. They ought to be thick enough to avoid looking like Jeggings, and they must have a good stretch factor to mold into le body shape. I found my perfect pair also at the Ted Baker summer sale. I pair it with my current favorite cloud pendant by Kirsteen Stewart that complements the sunset shirt dreamily.

Last but not least- Flatforms are created so usefully for the purpose of achieving extra height in combination with the comfort factor. Flatforms are an acquired taste and may take some of us a while to accept their existence to then possible invest in a pair and stare at them aimlessly in our wardrobe during outfit building. But once that day comes when you throw them on without the dilemma, a milestone is overcome and suddenly they are cute and make you happy.

Kimonos and Stament Clutches

www.stilettosandsubstance.comOne of the staple fun pieces to style with during summer is the kimono. While some of us feel they are slightly adventurous to pull off they are actually an easy, fun, transitional piece to throw on over any basic summer attire. Here I am rocking an open-work beige Kimono that I absolutely fell head-over-heels for whilst browsing through the isles of the H&M conscious collection. I have it thrown over a red silk 20’s era reminiscent shift dress that I bought from Reiss a few years back.

To complete the look, i have incorporated another Asian inspired element as I accessorize with a statement metal handcrafted bag from Tibet. The Tibet bag is available at the lovely online Brooklyn based boutique Coco London Brooklyn. The ethnic handcraft detailing of this bag is immaculate and I am particularly in love with the plush violet interior that adds a fun element of surprise.
