A Lengthened Melody

DSC01197edited2

This weeks post I went back to basics, keeping my attendance monotone in an elongating all black ensemble. The statement piece transpired via waxed leather-esque sweatpants, accompanied by a not so killer platform heels from Zara. The look was completed with a high neckline and slicked back ponytail, rendering a simplistic lengthened melody.

Fierce and Armed

stilettosandsubstance.com

In an effort to live to your higher self you must create a vision of your “super you”. Challenge your inner “post no bills” by painting a new picture of yourself, create it and evolve into it. Put on that dress that is going to transform your “attitude” towards the day, give you ’the oomph of mental power and energy. Play the role of that inner alter ego. If not, create one. Take it to new heights. Try that something that scares you. Enjoy the process. Smile. Walk down the street with your head up and look around and admire all the creations of mankind. It’s a beautiful day and if not, well nature is making its own seasonal adjustments. Be slightly prepared. Carry a leather jacket. Olive green if you may. Rich in color. Surprise yourself. Wear a third eye across your neck and see how people respond to it. It’s a perfect conversation starter. Talk to strangers. Get right to it. Today you’re on a role. Take something from it. Continue on your adventure. No holding back. Fierce and armed, literally.

A New Perspective

stilettosandsubstance.comThis week’s style post highlights the idea of mixing and matching your previously owned fashion pieces. Dedicating a few extra minutes to our daily outfit choosing routine can go a long way resulting in fun new outfit combos. We all have that specific top and pants that we religiously pair together that we now can approach with a fresh new styling perspective.

Here I am rocking a grey peter pan collared button up top that I purchased from Asos a while back. I am pairing it alternatively with silky harem black and beige striped pants from American Apparel. This new outfit combo created a new day-to-night look mostly with the addition of the harem pants to a top that I usually wear with my black high waisted skinny pants as corporate attire.

With a neutral toned outfit there’s nothing better than to compliment it by adding a pop of colorful accessorizing. I accessorize the neutral grays and yellows with a scarlet red statement shoe by Marc by Marc. The statement show consists of golden buttons and chunky gold and red striped heel, which is my favorite element of the shoe.

I accessorize adventurously by layering many necklaces of different textures, lengths and shades for no reason whatsoever. Lastly I throw on my trademark Marc by Marc “clearly” bag, which has a vinyl panel on the front exposing the inner leather compartments of the bag. There’s an element of excitement that comes with rocking vinyl clear bags and exposing the inner workings of your life– an amusement i attained at a very early age ever since my first clear vinyl backpack with the legendary purple zippers… in Kindergarten.

Mixed Prints and Manbags

I have been on the hunt for the perfect briefcase for a few months now to maneuver around the city with carrying my laptop to do blog work in various inspiring locations. I somehow find myself drawn during my search to the men’s accessories section. The structuring of the breifcases combined with the fine leather composition in the dusky color combinations augment the right amount of edge to my feminine quirky attire.

I missioned across Ted Baker’s Scullery (Men’s floor) on 5th avenue to come across this retro lime green, navy, and brown color-blocked Man Bag. I love the idea of combining prints with contrasting lime of the Man Bag to create an element of visual excitement.

I accessorize with my retro briefcase over a black and white print-on-print laid back outfit combo. Polka dot jeans with a contrasting white top with a triangular print compose my work-mode library attire as I spend my day off by Bryant park blogging. My red reflective Ray-bans add the fierce finishing touch.

Disney Retro

With spring-cleaning, a lot of hidden treasures reveal themselves. When I come visit my mother in Abu Dhabi, I get the pleasure of rummaging through her closet and incorporating some of her pieces with my own to create interesting outfit combinations. Here I am rocking a Donald Duck and Daisy Duck Oversized shirt that she purchased from boutique in Switzerland many years back. It comes back to life as I pair it with my camel harem pants from Vince for an effortless breezy spring/summer attire.

The humidity makes it difficult to have non frizzy hair, instead surrendering to the fizziness and maintaining the curls using Miss Jessie’s Pillow soft curls styling lotion may yield affirmative results. Here I rock my frizz in a low ponytail and a loosely parted fringe.

I finished off my outfit by accessorizing lightly with black striped shades by Fendi and pointed black flats by Charles and Keith.

Vintage Daze

stilettosandsubstance.comOn a recent trip to Austin, Texas along with some of my fellow fashion bloggers, we made it our mission to visit some of Austin’s many unique vintage stores. The list was endless, however we managed a cover a decent amount of stores and I managed to find some enticing vintage finds to add to my archives.

Here I am rocking a black sheer loosely fit vintage top that I bought from a really cool store called Feathers Boutique. Feathers Boutique provided a modern twist to vintage clothing. It was one of the stores I spent the most time in. I was amused with vintage clothes that have been altered in-house to modern day silhouettes – a fantastic idea. This sheer top is an ideal throw on with denim shorts during breezy summer days and is ideal for effortless bohemian-esque music festival attire.

Here, I decided to pair the blouse with a pair of black pants and suede booties, which were also a vintage find from my trip. I never owned cowboy boots and not sure yet if I can pull them off, however in spirit of ‘Texas’ I managed to find an intermediate- cowboy booties!

Last but not least, I accessorized with a brown vintage leather bag that was one of my lucky random finds from Room Service Vintage, and two golden string necklaces from Frock on Vintage. Our Austin vintage shopping trip was ultimately a success!

Old Boston

Morning light and cobblestones are two combinations for a moment of inspiration and at this moment I was inspired by color and color combination- my favorite creative exercise.  This ensemble consisted of a tan, white & black color-blocked silk top from one of my desired English stores Hobbs, and was paired with a box pleated A-line skirt and a netted waistcoat. The skirt was created as part of my fashion collection “La Femme Juvenile”- a collection inspired by childrenswear for adults as indicated by the dotted lace overlaying the soft power blue. The ensemble was accessorized with vintage earrings and a pointed suede shoe from Zara. The early hours of the morning capture the articles in their natural essence with the soft light and the cobblestones bring a sense of nostalgia in one of Boston’s oldest landmarks Faneuil Hall.
